Community Sparks

Want to make your yard a place you love?

🌳 Coconino Community College is offering a Sustainable Landscaping class for anyone passionate about enhancing their outdoor spaces. Participants will learn about micro climates, sprinkler systems, tree and shrub care, pest management and seasonal maintenance from expert instructor, Dan DeVere.

Classes will be Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm March 20, 27 and April 3, 10, 17 & 24th. Find more information and sign up at the CCC website.

Add to a Hopeful Community Art Exhibit

🕊 Where Whispers Take Flight is an art installation filled with the hopes, dreams and encouragement of community members, and you’re invited to contribute! During the month of March come add to an ever growing collection of origami birds hanging from The HeArt Box Gallery ceiling and inscribed with your messages of hope. Here are details of how to participate - all ages, backgrounds and levels of creativity are welcome.

@betsyrunsuswithms - In less than a week Betsy Mueller, a Flagstaff mom to 3, will set out to become the first person with Multiple Sclerosis to run across the United States. She’ll be running 40 miles a day on a 3200 mile journey to raise awareness about MS and spread hope. You can find out more about her story and follow her progress on her site, betsyrunsuswithms.com.

Apply for a FREE HEPA Air Purifier:

🔥 ☁Flagstaff Sustainability and Flagstaff Fire have partnered to help our community prepare for the smoke impacts of wildfire and prescribed fire season. Community members who live within Flagstaff city limits can apply for a FREE HEPA air filter. Apply here - applications close March 14th!

This is a grant funded program and priority is given to community members who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • experience adverse health effects from smoke

  • have children ages 0-15

  • are 65+ years old

  • have a gross household income of less than $80,000

Fire Restrictions for Apache Sitgreaves Forests

Under stage 1 restrictions smoking outdoors is prohibited except in designated areas. Campfires are prohibited except in developed campgrounds. You may use devices solely fueled by propane, or other fuels where the fire can be turned on or off. You may not use fireworks, explosive targets, or tracer round ammunition.
